METIER Final Conference
"Methods in Interdisciplinary Environmental Research Supporting EU Policies"
Autumn 2009
Objective
The final conference is scheduled pursuing a threefold aim:
Firstly, the scientists in charge of the different training courses, supported by other key lecturers, will report about recent progress and future challenges in their respective area. That way, the audience of the conference will receive an optimal overview about selected methods in interdisciplinary environmental research and will be informed about recent developments.
Secondly, selected participants of the training courses will present how they have made use of the methodological training they received. These examples will elucidate the use of these methodologies, thus encouraging other early-stage researcher to apply novel methods in their own work.
Thirdly, the conference is designated to bridge between science and policy: by presenting selected methods in interdisciplinary environmental research to policy makers and practitioners, and by presentations from policy makers and practitioners about their demands on environmental research and data. Ample discussions between early-stage researchers and policy makers will be encouraged, offering experience and possibility which are usually out of reach for young scientists: to learn how methods in environmental research can support policies and can be used by policy makers.
