PEER Flagship projects

Cooperative EU projects and networks with strong PEER participation

PEER participation in FP6 is strongest in four projects: ALARM, AlterNet, NoMiracle and Sensor. These projects involve at least four of the PEER member organisations, and they are jointly called "Flagship projects". Among the four projects, there are three integrated projects an one network of excellence.

Full presentations of the flagship projects can be found via the links on the right.

ALARM - Assessing Large scale Risks for biodiversity with tested Methods

ALARM is an integrated project developing large scale risk assessment for biodiversity and terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems. ALARM will develop and test methods and protocols for the assessment of large-scale environmental risks in order to minimise negative direct and indirect human impacts.

ALTER-Net: A Long-Term Biodiversity, Ecosystem and Awareness Research Network

ALTER-Net is a European network of excellence, a long-term inter-disciplinary facility for research on the complex relationship between ecosystems, biodiversity and society. It provides scientific support for policy assessment and development on the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in the European Union. It is also a facility for information retrieval and reporting on biodiversity related issues.

NOMIRACLE - Novel Methods for Integrated Risk Assessment of Cumulative Stressors in Europe

NoMiracle is an integrated project that develops methods for scientists to find out how chemicals influence the environment and human health. The target of the project is to increase knowledge on the transfer of pollutants between different environmental compartments. This will enable a better control over uncertainty, including risk analysis and on the impact of cumulative stressors.

SENSOR - Sustainability Impact Assessment: Tools for Environmental, Social and Economic Effects of Multifunctional Land Use in European Regions

SENSOR develops enhanced impact assessment and management tools for sustainable land-use (SIAT) in European regions with a multifunctional approach. The implementation includes databases and spatial reference frameworks for the analysis of land and human resources in the context of agricultural, regional and environmental policies.
